Season 377. Submission 1. "Ode To Billie Joe" (Written and recorded by Bobbie Gentry, 1967)

Thank you for hosting, Del, and your fine theme. There's "sorry" everywhere here, though you won't hear the word.

******* Del, I just now (8:08 p.m.) have read that only the word "sorry" will do, as I hadn't been back to the thread since Saturday. I won't have time to record another song, so I'm afraid I have to ask for application of the Thornton Rule or be disqualified. Again, my apologies.

Well I just wrote this during extra time in the Chelsea game in anticipation of them somehow managing not to be an English in a European final this season... it uploaded during the penalty shootout which they ultimately won so I guess it's not relevant but I don't think I've ever done two originals in the same season so **** it. Muttering so as not to wake the family up

I think it’s been a few weeks since I’ve done some Wilco, so I guess I’m overdue. This was on an ep I think, and then also on a soundtrack to a tv show I’m not familiar with. But it made it onto a box set of singles, b-sides and outtakes, which is why I came across it. “Sorry” is featured several times at the end.

I found an appropriate song by Jimmy C. Newman, so I had to give it a go.

Never mind the words, just hum along and keep on going...

One from our perspiration and cheap cologne soaked halcyon days of Junior High School. Our only concern was who we were going to dance with at the next dance (in both our cases, no one), and this song always featured prominently. We felt it deserved a kitchen rinsing. Mel choked on the back up vocals. Our apologies.

Here is a primer to Gopniks, Kvas, and sunflower seeds.
Gopniks may be as foreign to Americans as Hee Haw is to Europeans,
It is a cultural thing but in different parts of the world they could be
Chavs, Neds Bogans Hoolums Yobs Hosers Jatkat.

Here's a Merle Haggard song I'd never heard before, but I thought "Hmm interesting title" before even listening to it. It's one of those sad songs with a happy beat. I went from never hearing it to recording this in under 15 minutes, in fact this take was the first time I had tried to sing the 2nd verse.
