Season 378 "Banned by the Beeb"

Well, I was banned by a couple of employers. Although I think the proper term is ‘fired’ or ‘sacked.’:nana:

This was banned by the Beeb because of its reference to "hush puppies". Apparently this was in violation of their "no advertising" rule. Sheesh.

Had to get this one in as quickly as possible. I'm sure it won't be the only tune by George Formby we hear this week. This one has the distinct honor of having been banned a second time, in 1963 when it was dusted off by Joe Brown and the Bruvvers (at least according to one of Val's links in the OP). I don't know why this was banned... He's just singing about something we all do here every week, sometimes several times, and for all the world to see.

Let's see...

Don't trust authoritarian entities...check!
Keep and hide your guns...check!
Secretly teach your children so they won't be indoctrinated by the state...check!

I can't imagine why they would want to ban this one.

It is now bedtime in deepest France. Very many thanks to everyone who has contributed already ... I think everyone has been added to the Playlist (please let me know if I have somehow missed you out). I look forward to some more contributions "over night". images.jpeg

Heres my arrangement of 'Sailing', this song was banned by the beeb during the Gulf War...........

Many thanks for these, Paul!
Here is another link which makes interesting reading, although I don't think it adds any new songs to the list ...

This list includes that amazing song "The Landing of the Daleks", banned for .... the use of morse code!!!! Anyone???

And "Bonjour" from deepest France, where the sun is shining (for the first time in several days!) Very many thanks to the overnight contributors ... the Playlist is now up-to-date, or "mise a jour" as we say over here. (Yes, I know ... stop showing off!) Please keep the songs coming in!

Here's another that was on my "Wacky Winners" album when I was a kid, that's also on the banned list. Used to play this one over and over. Taking a cue from Andy here, I decided to play it on my little ukulele, aka, the sopranino challenge

Got banned by Aunty Beeb for mentioning Coca Cola apparently.....first outing for my lovely Uke Ritual prize Tee as well

A Southern Gospel song composed by Stuart Hamblen in the 1950s. Apparently banned by the BBC in 1954.
Found this information -
The Head of Religious Broadcasting. considered it “a sincere, if misguided, presentation of a very personal aspect of the Christian gospel.” He suggested that “it should only be used in request programmes in which the responsibility for the choice does not rest directly on the Corporation.”

Lyrics
The chimes of time ring out the news, another day is through
Someone slipped and fell, was that someone you?
You may have longed for added strength, your courage to renew
Do not be disheartened, for I have news for you
It is no secret what God can do
What He's done for others, He'll do for you
With arms wide open, He'll pardon you
It is no secret what God can do

There is no night for in His light you never walk alone
Always feel at home, wherever you may go
There is no power can conquer you, while God is on your side
Take Him at His promise, don't run away and hide
It is no secret what God can do
What He's done for others, He'll do for you
With arms wide open, He'll pardon you
It is no secret what God can do

This one was deemed a little too topical in 1969, and the BBC decided not to play it until Apollo 11 had returned safely to Earth.

Hawkwind's single 'Spirit of the Age' also uses SOS in morse code but as far as i'm aware it wasn't banned for it

YT took down this video that I made some years ago. I think maybe because I titled it Painting and Pornography then.
I re-recorded a simple spoken word version just now. Hope it gets to stay online for a while.

So the story goes that Silly Old Rat, our protagonist, wants to learn how to paint. He loves watching p***. So I made this guidebook for him, thinking that it might enlighten him in his journey as a aspiring painter.

By the way, i just noticed that after 3-4 views i got 3 dislikes on this video. Haha. I think i should win a prize, Val.
People obviosly hate this and want it or me banned;-)
