I put a very thin wash of shellac over the top to protect it a little, but I didn’t mask off where the bridge goes. Will that be problematic when I’m gluing down the bridge? Should I sand that area down a little?

Thanks

Shellac is a sealer and as such glue won't sick to it, which is a usefull fact to store away. Sharpen a chisel and don't remove the burr and use that as a mini scraper.

Yes, a sharp chisel is probably the best tool for this job. For light scraping, I find a conventionally sharpened chisel (i.e. any burr removed as you normally would when sharpening) works great as well. Actually, I just did this 5 minutes ago to remove a dried bubble and a very minor run on something I'm finishing.
