My fingers are long enough, but my hand flexibility isn't where it should be, despite 20 years of guitar playing. A stretch from 3 to 7 on a 25.4" scale guitar is just doable for me. Lots easier on a baritone or tenor.
6" is about my limit, just over if I really push it. But then I'm a girl with small hands. I'm working on getting more stretch, strength and flexibility.
Wow the poll result really surprised me. I’m actually in the mainstream category! And I can’t even play a tenor sized uke right due to my stretchability. But seems like plenty of UU members are tenor players which kinda puzzled me. My guess is that the bigger hands folks have not put in their numbers yet.
I’ve been working on playing the Harry Lime Theme from the movie The Third Man. There a part where you have to stretch from the 2nd to the 6th fret on the G string. Can’t do it on my tenors but can on my Concert.
I guess having large hands don’t necessarily means having a wider stretch than the smaller hands.
So glad that ukulele comes in so many sizes. Thanks for all the votes!
