    Thanks for weighing in. Since I posted that original post, I've decided not to get one. I don't think it will serve my needs too well.
    Kala KA-TE tenor uke (currently tuned re-entrant gCEA)
    Kala APB-CTG baritone uke (currently tuned DGBE)
    Ohana BK-35CG baritone uke (currently tuned low-octave ADF#B)
    Various guitars, banjos, and basses

    Re-consider, a fretless Bass uke may well fit your needs better

    IMO the U-bass lacks punch because of the low string tension, especially in the high tones.
    If your uke is too loud, your neighbours are wrong.
