Only One Ukulele?

How many UU members think it would be a good idea to know only one tune?
Yeah, but you'd learn that tune really really well! It'd actually be really interesting to concentrate on just one tune for a year and see where you got with it.

Fun for somebody else. Not me. I can't even focus on learning one instrument at a time. But just because it's not my thing doesn't mean it's wrong for others. Kind of like collecting ukes ;)

Blasphemy! Stop this heresy immediately!

Moderators, help, help!

Stlll, I don‘t consider myself a serious collector, rather a would-be musician looking for different sound options for different kinds of music. And I play them, well, at least most of them, regularly.

I think this best explained to me concept of UAS. The other instruments I've learned are instruments that it seems unconventional to have multiple of due to cost or space, so I never understood the idea of having more than one of a given instrument unless it's in different sizes/tunings (like baritone and soprano/concert ukes).

And so for the time being, I just have a concert. But I am looking to acquire a baritone because that's what got me to pick up the uke in the first place (the guitar was pretty much an impossibility for me). So I guess then I'll have 2. But I still don't anticipate I'll get more. I am very practical about buying only what I absolutely need.

Only one ukulele? That's just crazy talk! :biglaugh:

This could potentially solve the problem. Someone build me this.

The 'which one would you save in a fire' question has come up before as well. It can be hard to admit that the one you you would save is not necessarily the most expensive, rarest and most lusted after for the longest time!

I would not want to have only one ukulele.
Even if I found the perfect ukulele and decided for one tuning only, I would like a backup for when one just had a string change.
You can make an argument for only two, but I am not sure I could decide...

Please lock me away
and don’t allow the day
here inside where I hide with my loneliness.
I don’t care what they say - I won’t stay in a world with one uke

Birds sing out of tune
and raindrops hide the moon
I’m OK, here I’ll stay with my loneliness
I don’t care what they say - I won’t stay in a world with one uke.

So I’ll wait and in a while
I will see another uke arrive
Tenor, concert, or baritone
a sopranino...who knows?

But baby until then,
Lock me away,
and don’t allow the day
here inside where I hide with my loneliness.

I don’t care what they say
I won’t stay in a world with one uke.

One? One is the loneliest number. I had one for the longest time, now
I have one soprano, one tenor, one low g, one pineapple and one round. Each has its purpose.

 That ought to be played at uke group.

Since I play both reentrant and linear, that means I would need 4 ukuleles. Actually, I have thought that is probably the ideal number for me, but I'm over that. :)

Haha Swamp Yankee. Perfect.

I can't get by with one ukulele. I think I did it in the beginning, for a few months. Then I met Mim....

Well done, Swamp Yankee. Now I have the tune stuck in my head and can't make it go away! :)
