Gummed tape

I am considering using gummed tape to pull together a crack on the back. Is this the same as paper packing tape? If so is reinforced gummed tape the way to go?

Started the repair using the old method of working glue into the cracks, applying just enough pressure on the sides to get a little squeeze out, let set and will use cleats and reattach or replace braces.
