Uke #7, White pine and Red Oak

Here's my latest ukulele, #7. The top is white pine, and the back and sides are red oak. The neck is mahogany and the bridge/fretboard are walnut.

This isn't the loudest ukulele I've made, but it's the most balanced in terms of volume/tone/looks. The sound is focused and very clear.

We are occasionally asked whether oak can be used for a uke as not many ever try it. Likewise pine is well down the list of soundboard materials. This adds to the information available to would be makers and may encourage others to try out these materials.

Thanks, I really enjoy using non-traditional woods. As far as oak goes it worked really well, it's easy to work while and it doesn't feel particularly heavy. The white pine is incredibly light, so I put a little more bracing than I usually would, but all-in-all i'm happy with the look, feel and sound of this instrument.

LOOks nice! Do you call it the oakulele?
