You might consider placing a small dowel or 1/4 rod on the inside at the end while squashing it down. This will assure a decent bend radius and reduce the risk of it braking.

It may also be easier to bend while hot.
I got it to smash down, I plugged it in and wated till it got bright red, then I put it in a vice and it smashed like butter no cracks, works perfect.
