I made a strap for my Outdoor Ukulele using 550 paracord. I purchased 50 feet of paracord from Dick's Sporting Goods for $4.99 (+ tax)

It is essentially a long paracord bracelet with sliding loop ends to attach to the strap buttons.

A 5 feet long single strand of paracord is used for the core with scaffold knots at the ends to attach it to the strap buttons. The cobra knot pattern is used to wrap the core.

A 36 feet long strand is used for the cobra knot wrap. The cobra knot pattern is used to cover the center 42 inches of the single strand core. The remaining ends of the core are used to make the scaffold knots.

The cobra knot pattern is initially compressed to tightly fit in the center 40 inches of the core and is expanded to 42 inches meet the scaffold knots on the ends. This allows the core to be completely covered and results in a more flexible and comfortable strap.

Tie the scaffold knots and attach them to the strap buttons. It may take a few attempts to get the length correct for your preference. I like my ukulele to hang just a bit lower than it would be without a strap.

When you are satisfied with the length trim any excess paracord and use a lighter to singe the ends. I left a few inches on the back scaffold knot in case I need to adjust it later.

Pull the cobra wrap towards the ends from the center to meet the scaffold knots. Try to evenly distribute the cobra knot pattern. Trim the ends of the last cobra knot and use a lighter to singe and seal (press) the ends.

Enjoy your new ukulele strap!

Great! That is a good survival item, too!

Weld one done. Thanks for sharing. Resulting parachord strap looks to be very comfy to wear. I’ve seen three braid version but like this a lot. Cheers

It looks good. You can also buy paracord from some craft stores like Michaels.

Thanks for the comments everyone. This is my first paracord creation and it was easy to do. By doing it myself I now understand how it works so if I had to take it apart or put it back together I could. I actually owned one of those paracord bracelets before and when it began to unravel I stopped wearing it. Now I know how to weave it and how to use a lighter to fix it. Plenty of how-to resources online like in the search link Jerryc41 posted, thanks.

Getting the strap length right is the tricky part which is why I left a little cord on the end. There are ways to make it more easily adjustable like using an adjustable bend knot on one end, see the link below. My previous strap was a wide shoelace so I am used to having a fixed length.

The strap buttons are an option from the manufacturer. They were $10.00 for the two of them, installed. They are installed with a machine screw and locknut.

Very cool! Thanks for adding the Adjustable Bend Knot link, dgame. This looked like an interesting project except that I wouldn't want a non-adjustable strap. I'm not fond of the strap I have of my Outdoor, so it may end up with one of these!
