Clearly, it refers to circumnavigation of the Earth by sailboat.

I believe it is a copy of an ancient petroglyph honoring the Strum Gods. They were aligned with the rising of the Sun. Used to tell the followers when it was the correct day to play music. The Pickers were jealous, and adopted it as their own. And the World was joyous and happy place.

I'm impressed! All well thought out answers. I had no idea there were so many philologists that play the uke.
