Ukulele Related News from NAMM 2020

The guys from Southern Ukulele Store have posted a video from the Kanile'a booth, going over the 2020 Platinum model (it's kinda growing on me), the P1 pineapple tenor, and the blue bay ukulele with inlays by Craig Lavine:

Thanks for posting this video. It explains a lot.

First I like the blue uke very much. It's gorgeous and the sea turtles are very well executed. In fact, the whole uke works very well visually.

The 2020 Platinum, not so much. It sounds great. I like the features: The D-Sound Hole, the Scoop, the Beveled Arm Rest, The Side Sound Port. The Super Tenor Size. The Slotted Headstock. All are terrific. The Koa wood is phenomenal. What I don't like is the decoration. The story behind the track inlay is nice. But I just don't find it very attractive. The Old English historic logo story is interesting, but I think it detracts from the overall look. Especially if they are going for the "looking ahead", where Kanile'a is headed, etc. All of these design elements are fighting each other and IMO don't work as a cohesive whole. I'm sure I'm in the minority on this.

BTW: I like the smaller side sound port. I have a huge on on my Kinnard 2 and it blasts the sound at me if I am strumming it. It is actually painful to my ears it's so loud. As Joe said, 90% odf the time I'm playing for myself. Practicing and playing for enjoyment. I have to angle the port away if I dig in and strum hard. A minor quibble.

Looks like I'm not going to make the show tomorrow, my 98 year old mom is not feeling well and I thought I should stay close just in case.

Pictures of the new Premier Exotic and Burl lines from Kala (I like what they are doing with the classy look, the beveled armrest, and the satin neck, but I feel the faceplate of the headstock should be gloss in order to pick up the look of the body, and I'm sceptic about those Graphtech tuners after several reports of them failing or braking):

Fender is presenting the Fullerton line of ukuleles as a mockup of their own iconic Stratocaster, Telecaster and Jazzmaster guitar shapes:
Well, that Strat headstock finally makes sense now, even if it's still out of proportion. These should sell well, I can see it appealing to a certain market.

No Martin ukulele news from NAMM I guess? The only thing I want to see is Martin bringing back the S0 with 12 frets but I think my wallet is safe. Hoping that's one of the things Mim is discussing with them. :)

Although I do like Elvis and his music, I'm not sure I would want to buy the Elvis ukulele. Maybe just the Blue Hawaii one to hang on the wall as a decoration.

Hey Luke, are you going to visit the NAMM show this year?
