I've started a soprano ukulele with maple back and sides. I am trying to decide whether to go maple or use some left over spruce for the soundboard. Has anybody had any experience with spruce top soprano?
I have made many spruce topped sopranos. They tend to be loud and punchy with strong fundamentals, but with less overtones than hardwoods generally.

I've made a couple. I don't like them for Tin Pan Alley style strumming, because they sustain too long and muddy the sound. But for slower strumming, or melodic lines, they work well.
