I've been looking for a mini bass for a little while now. I've been looking at the Timber by Magic Fluke, the Kala California basses, and a pretty sweet little bass currently listed on Ray's Rootworks' website, but I just happened to find this one at the right time!! I knew I wanted something that could use wound strings, and I didn't want it to require a proprietary string, which eliminated a couple of these options. These are built by a high end custom bass shop in Poland using the "scrap" wood from their custom builds to make these mini basses!! I also like that they have a 17.1" scale length, similar to my tenors! I just ordered mine today, and it's shipping from California tomorrow. They just started building these in 2019, and I was told that they build them in batches of 12 once every 6 months. I lucked out by getting in touch with one of the vendors who just picked this up from Mayones at NAMM. Hope to have some updates soon, but I am really excited for this one!!

Very cool design and sounds really good. The up octave tuning kinda ruins it for me as a true "bass" but getting that tuning in a tenor scale is a neat trick in its own right

The beauty is that I already have an octave pedal for my ukes so that I could loop bass lines with them. It sounded pretty nice when used with an octaver in the video, I can't wait to mess around with it!!

I always wonder why price is not mentioned when presenting a new instrument. I always state the price I paid for all the instruments I talk about on forums, i.e., I just bought an Aklot bamboo tenor cutaway uke from eBay for $70, down from $130, that's going to replace the walnut tenor Fluke I don't like that I bought here in the Marketplace for $150. I also bought a Chinese copy of a Rickenbacker 325 short scale guitar from AliExpress for $290 shipped that I'm converting to a bass. So what is the price of the Mayones, can't find it listed anywhere?

This is Michael Kohan in Los Angeles, Beverly West near the Beverly Center
9 tenor cutaway ukes, 6 acoustic bass ukes, 12 solid body bass ukes, 14 mini electric bass guitars (Total: 41)

If purchased direct from Mayones, they are $1,550 for Matte finish and $1,700 for gloss +shipping, VAT, etc from Poland. To purchase direct, you need to get on a waiting list for the next batch. Batches of approximately 12 are completed every 6 months, and when it's your turn, you get to choose what you want from the available stock. I got lucky and purchased mine from a company in the states for $1,550 shipped with no additional fees. However, some merchants who got them from NAMM and selling in the states were asking $1,800-$2,200 + shipping. That said, Mayones uses the same hardware and you get the same amount of detail work on these as you do on their "normal" sized customs that are $4,000+.

That’s super pretty! I’m not a fan of the whale humps on full size BGs: it looks great on the small one. That Cocobolo is killer. Yours looks even better than the one in the video.

It’s not for me (I’m with Jim in wanting the lower octave native, and I prefer a longer scale length to the shorter, and I’m cheap), but those are all personal preferences. If this hits the mark it looks like a better deal than the Kala Californias for about the same price.

They definitely had some pretty ones at NAMM!
