Hi All

I just broke the bottom A string on my 6 string tenor tuning it up.

Can anyone tell me, are the extra C and A strings supposed to be an octave higher or lower? Don't want to break another string.

Thanks

Typically the c and a are octaves, c higher and a lower.
Six strings are tuned many different ways though.

Some six strings do the octave tuning for the C, and just double the A strings to make the A sound louder and more full.

Thanks SailingUke. Makes sense. I was tuning the a to a higher octave when it broke. Cheers

You can tell from the tkickness. The thick C is tuned like the C on another tenor, and the really thin C an octave higher. For the A, the thin one is tuned like the regular A on any uke, and the thick A an octave lower. If the strings are same thickness then they are in unison.
