El timple!

They are great instruments and very similar to the ukulele. In fact to my mind they have more in common than the machete and rajao that people usually claim were the precursor to the uke.

On the island of Lanzarote, in the old capital Teguise, they have a museum dedicated to it. I visited and was delighted to see there were examples of the other related instruments in there, including a ukulele donated to the museum by Koaloha

I wrote about it here if you are interested - https://www.gotaukulele.com/2012/03/visit-to-casa-museo-del-timple.html

I checked out your page while the band above was playing, added another dimension to it. I will need to check out more of your site when I have time.

I posted about the Timple after a visit to Canary island of La Palma a few years ago. Here's the link:

I might try a no frills build some day soon. I did one making a guitar a little bigger than a baritone. Maybe a tenor uke. It would be fun.

Man if you can get past all the talking, this dude's timple playing is truly excellent. Damn, now I want a timple. The music of the Canary Islands had a lot of influence on early guitar and lute repertoire (late Renaissance to Baroque) and you can hear echos of it in Spanish guitar composers such as Gaspar Sanz.
