My wife has a Yamaha GL1 Guitalele. She is visually impaired. I bought some green neon strings to help here see them. Question, they are steel strings. Will they require too much stress on the neck to tune it properly. Anyone know of nylon strings that are colored.

The steel strings are likely to have too much tension for the GL1, but they may work for a while before the neck bends or something pops. I would not fit them myself.

Type "coloured classical guitar strings" into google and you should find a selection of colourful nylon stings you can buy. Classical guitar strings will work on a GL1. I found some made by Alice and Pyramid, there are more. Ask about the tension if you have a choice. I like low tension classical guitar strings on my GL1, your wife might like a different tension.

Thank you, Good idea.

Do NOT put the steel strings on. If you did, take them off immediately.

I find normal tension classicals just fine for standard ADGCEA tuning, but I agree it is personal preference
