Hi, I usually just come to UU threads when I've googled a question about ukuleles, but I didn't see an answer to this particular question.
I'm wondering if it matters which way you wind the strings for friction or planetary tuners. I have an old Martin where the 1st and 4th strings wind outside instead of the usual inside direction. I like the way it looks and am curious if tuners are made to wind in a specific direction, clockwise or counterclockwise, or if it doesn't matter.
A friend had some work done on his Martin which was strung like mine, and received it back from the shop with all the strings going inside like most guitars and ukuleles. The repair person was apparently unaware of the atypical Martin winding directions.
I'm curious if it matters which way you wind the strings for friction tuners or Gotoh UPTs. And I'm curious if it matters for intonation/tension since the strings are leading to the nut at different angles if you wind them inside or outside. Does anybody know?
