Ohana has come out with some interesting combinations of limited edition woods. I was wondering about the sound of the Redwood / rosewood combination. Does anyone have one or have tried one? How is the sound compared to cedar and spruce?

Just to be clear, the Ohana Redwood/Rosewood is not a new model, they have been offering this for at least the past eight years (since 2012), although in limited supply.

Redwood can be a great tonewood and has been described as Cedar on steroids. Pairing it with Rosewood is often done and may boost the sound quality even further. However, the sound samples from that particular Ohana model have never impressed me much:

There are several other demos available on Youtube, model names are CK-45, TK-42, or TK40R.

I have heard that same video and was not impressed with the Ohana sound on that particular uke that is why I reached out to the UU forum.

Sound could be waymit was recorded. It’s clear and bright. Strings make a huge difference. I don’t like the rope preflight g so would never buy for that reason. I do like the look and sound of redwood. The tuners are the OLD metal stamped kind that are on old fender guitars. I’d much rather see UPTs and no rope purfling on this model. Minimum, tuner should be Grover open back..... IMHO but UPT/L would be big incentive for me to ever consider buying this model.
