Here are the lyrics to the song I sang today. I’m re-thinking the title now though
open to suggestions. It’s a little cheesy because I was trying to rhyme (demented might be a bit extreme, for instance, and I likely wouldn’t actually hold your hand, unless asked) but aside from minor bits like that, every word is true. The water was a large, inground swimming pool, and I was stung almost a dozen times.
“I don’t run unless I’m chased”
Is something I’ve often said
But the buzzing’s growing louder
And now they’re circling ‘round my head
Why did I let Bobby
Start to lead us off the trail
Now we’ve kicked a nest
And they outmaneuver every limb I try to flail
Barreling through brush and branches
At speeds I’d never dreamed
Of and sprinting down the path
Until we’d neared the end, it seemed
But now we’ve cleared the woods
And they still haven’t relented
Chased us clear into the yard
Where I start to feel demented
As I balance on the precipice
Of fearful indecision
Another one flies at me
Stinger aimed with great precision
So I plunged into the water
With my shoes on, fully clothed
And the cloud of yellow jackets
Drifted above me as I dove
Some had crawled into my jeans
Others had tangled in my hair
But they must not like the water
Finally ending my despair
So if you wonder, when we’re hiking
Why I’ll never dare to stand
Beyond the clearly marked and maintained
Trails, I’ll take you by the hand
And say
“I don’t really want to run today”
Memories stinging from the past
“I don’t run unless I’m chased
But damn, those suckers sure fly fast”
Said, I don’t run unless I’m chased
But damn, those suckers sure fly fast
