Saw this video recently where this fellow brings a vintage Gretsch back to life, with neck reset, crack repair, etc. I believe it was the first uke he had worked on. He used some type of a deer antler cap over the existing saddle to raise the saddle height. I'd never seen that before, and thought it was rather strange, unless the existing saddle was non-removeable, not sure on that.

Interesting decisions made on a $50 Gretsch.
 
I'm no expert, but it sure looks much easier getting that neck off and doing a reset than on a Martin style dovetail joint.
