Season 428 - I Can Talk

I wonder if Sylvia ever found out that he rang?

SUMMER???? Are you sure???

Already 16¼ hours of daylight in Reykjavik. 2¼ hours more than in Biarritz, so...
...and we are on summer time!

Hello again, Ryan! Are songs about conversations with your heart permissible? I was introduced to Ron Sexsmith's songs by people here on the Seasons and I really like his music. The lyrics of this one are particularly relevant to me at the moment ... my heart has been quite vocal these last few days!

Cheers for hosting Ryan!
Must be at least 5 minutes since I last did a Depeche Mode cover on the Seasons, so I’m well overdue with this! ;)
So, how about conversations about you that take place behind your back, and that you get to hear about?

EDIT: Just thought I’d add a little more info on the song. It’s an album track from Depeche Mode’s excellent ‘Music For The Masses’ LP which was released on my 21st birthday in 1987 - they must have known! ;)

And the only reason I don’t sing along with my electric uke is that there is only one input for the iPad - it’s either uke or mic, so I have to record the vocal separately. I know - it’s a dull fact but nobody reads anything that’s written below the video anyway! :)

Hello everybody, here is a German Version of a wellknown song: where have all the flowers gone. The German lyrics mean: Tell me where are the flowers, so it fits to the seasons theme :)

Okay, I am sorry, but I will have to ask for a Ghetto Pass on this one. It is a bit off-topic, but as an instrumental, how far off-topic can it be?
I chose it more for the spirit of language acquisition in children rather than "talking."
Anyway, it is a cool little modal tune that fits nicely on a reentrant tuned ukulele.
I will accept any judgment from our fine host.
Thanks!
Yukio

A German an America and a Finn came across an elephant in the Jungle. The German said that is a big strong beast I could make it work hard for me. The American said I could put that animal in a circus and make lots of money. The Finn thought what does that animal think of ME?
A man captures a talking lion and tries to exploit it and things turn out badly for him.

I was over in Africa mini' for gold
O-oooh, min' for gold,
Come along a big lion, caught me in my hole
O-de-lay-eee, caught me in my hole
The lion said "Buddy, you plumb outta luck"
O-da-lay-eee, you plumb outta luck,
Made a lunge for me, lawd, I had to duck
O-de-lay-eee, I had to duck
I jabbed that lion right clean in the jaw
O-oooh, right clean in the jaw
Picked up his tail, dragged him cross the florr
O-de-lay-eee, dragged him cross the floor
I changed him up in the back of my truck
O-oooh, in the back of my truck
Said, "What's that you had to say about luck?"
O-de-lay-eee, that you said about luck

The first place I took him was ten miles away,
O-ooh, ten miles away
Told the people, "Listen what this lion can say"
O-de-lay-eee, what this lion can say
The lion looked round, he started to cty,
O-ooh, he started to cry,
Said, "This man punched me and he blackened my eye"
O-da-lay-eee, and he blackened my eye.
The people got angr, they started to shout,
O-da-lay-ee-ee-ee-eee
Lion said, "That's what I was talkin about"
O-de-lay-eee, oh-oh, lawd, lawd.
They hauled me up the courthouse stairs,
O-oooh, up the courthouse stairs
The judge was a monkey in an old wicker chair
O-de-lay-eee, in an old wicker chair.
The monky said, "Guilty", and the people all cheered,
O-oooh, and the people all cheered
He slammed his gravel, said "Twenty five years"
O-da-lay-eee, said twenty five years
I'm in Africa wearin a ball and chain,
O-de-lay-ee, a ball and chain,
I'll never mess with a talkin lion again
O-oooh, talkin lion again.

I have always liked the collaborations of Peter Blegvad and Andy Partridge and this is one that I thought I could adapt on the ukulele, lol.
Here are the lyrics :

Large tells Little not to look at the sun
"You'll go blind and that's no fun."

Little sees an orange hanging on a tree
and he tells Large "it looks to me
like an orange is a model of the sun,
like the orange and the sun are one."

"A doll of the sun" —
he likes that more.
It's like he's never seen
an orange or the sun before.

Large gives Little a piece of advice
"you'll go crazy and that's not nice
if you go on looking at things that way
you could wind up believing the things you say."

Little doesn't argue
he knows he's won.
He's found another way
of looking at the sun.

an improvised instrumental on baritone pt 1

Bay Area authorities announced today that we are to continue to shelter in place until the end of May. So I guess all that’s left to do is sit here and swap John Prine tunes with BDU.

Great idea for a theme Ryan. I hope to be able to bring another this week... we’ll see
