Hello,

Flight is getting a lot of praise online but strangely I haven't found many reviews or appreciation about the all solid mahogany concert, the most "vintage"-styled uke in the Flight models.
Did anyone put his hands on one ? Any feedback will be much appreciated.
Thanks in advance,

Gilles

I don't have experience with Flight ukes, but I'm aware they have a lot of models, and I believe more than one all solid mahogany concert. It might help if you specify the model?

I am vaguely aware of them. It seems to me that they're cheap, $150 instruments. As long as you are aware that they are very low-level instruments, then you and your expectations should be well met. However if someone is saying that you're getting a solid mahogany instrument for $150, then someone's pulling a fast one somehow.

I'm guessing OP is talking about the Flight MUC-2 solid mahogany concert, i.e., this one: https://flightmusic.com/product/flight-muc-2-all-solid-mahogany-concert-ukulele/
I haven't seen the concert being played but I have seen the soprano version, the MUS-2. The MUC-2 is listed for 219€ and the MUS-2 for 189€ on Flight's website. I don't think there's anything dodgy about getting a solid wood instrument for that kind of money. To me, the soprano and concert both seem to be similar to your entry level solid wood ukes like the Kalas and Ohanas. I've seen a few musicians play the MUS-2 and it doesn't seem half bad. I've been so impressed by certain Flight ukuleles that, at this sort of entry level, I would definitely much rather try one of these than something like Ohana for instance.

Hi,

here are a couple of videos of our MUS-2 Uke in action to hear it. Obviously its inspired by vintage M ukes. The uke is all solid, top is thin and light weight, uke is very loud and resonant, tuners are made in Japan Gotoh friction, strings are Aquila, so we consider it a good quality uke. The nearest comparable model is Ohana SK, which is quite a bit more expensive.

Thanks to everyone for the precious insights.
Yes, I was indeed referencing to the Flight MUC-2 which, for any reason, is most commonly listed as "all solid mahoganny ukulele".
That said, "me and my expectations" are fine, thank you, and I am humble enough to learn from people who actually know the instrument in question — though I show consideration for others who give their opinion on instruments they haven't played at all and are only "vaguely aware" of them.

regards,
Gilles

Sorry...but you did solicit "any feedback" and I did qualify and earmark my nugatory feedback. No harm done. Play what you like and like what you play. See you guys around.
