I just finished watching Smithsonian Channel, Air Disasters, Season Nine, Episode Nine, "Edge of Disaster" in which a four engine jet skidded off the end of a runway, and down an embankment. The spoilers failed to deploy, and the pilot engaged the "Emergency Brake" when it appeared that the plane was not slowing down. The plane was equipped with an ABS braking system. Turns out, that the ABS is deactivated when the Emergency Brake is activated. :uhoh: How stupid is that? ABS allows for a shorter stopping distance by preventing wheel lock-up and skidding. Having ABS disabled in an emergency is totally backwards. And, the commentators didn't even mention that design screw up in their final analysis. Or, am I missing something here?
