How do you clean up a cigar box?

I plan on using this cigar box for a ukulele. It's an old "boite nature" box probably redwood or red cedar. It is also very dirty. I don't mind imperfections but I would like to clean it up a bit to enhance the look of the wood. Can anyone suggest a good way to do this?
Thanks

I have used a product called GooGone. Test it in a small area first to see if it is doing what you want. A good place to test it is the area that will be hidden when the neck is installed.
You could also use a mild solution of dish soap and water. Be careful not to saturate the wood too much.

A plastic bristle brush, old tooth brush, soap and water. You want to see character afterwards?

Character is great, dirt not so much.
I give it a go with a soft toothbrush.
