Hello,
I was wondering if anyone out there knows what the proper scale length (based on the fret spacing) for a Gretsch American soprano from the 20's, 30's, early 40's might be? I have an early one that has a 13.5 inch scale and another later one that has a 13.125 inch scale. The fret spacing is the same on both. It seems like they weren't too accurate in gluing on their bridges. Thanks for any info

The proper scale length is twice the distance from the nut to the 12th fret. Try measuring both instruments.

I can't help much. But I have had two of them and neither would play anywhere close to being in tune. A shame because they had a nice sound. I got rid of them several years ago, so I can't measure for you.
