Hi, can somebody point me to some resources I can read to catch up on using rosewood in musical instruments and CITES? Thanks in advance.

If you google cites rosewood the entire first page of results is articles on musical instruments.

I guess my real question is what effect the CITES treaty and subsequent exemption is having on ukulele designs currently in production and going forward into the immediate future. Rosewood is ok again to use as a fretboard or any other part of the instrument. Does that mean that luthiers previously avoiding the tone wood due to its controversy are now incorporating it back - without hesitation - into their instruments? I ask since I rather like the look of rosewood, assuming it's used with respect and sustainability in mind.

As for my question as originally stated - yes indeed, thanks! Here are some sources for those who clicked on the thread to find out more:

The short answer is yes luthiers that’s had to abandon rosewood are once again using it. Pono is a perfect example, they cut it out completely and now are using it again.

There is rosewood and there is rosewood. Look into the different species to see which are banned (for good reason) and which are not.

Some countries still do not allow the import or export of some rosewoods and other rare woods. So, in answer to your question, it's mostly: "Yes"—maybe.
