Thanks for the tips. Steedy and ripock, good points. I'm sure I'll get a little gentler with my thumb in time. Steedy, I concur with your assessment that in my search for warm, it was overkill to get a solid mahogany instrument and warm strings to boot.
Yeah, the Oasis warms are not much different than the browns, I'm finding. Still a bit muddier than what I'm looking for.
I've ordered the Worth Clear CT-LGHD (with a "high density" G-string) which is supposed to be a crisper bass sound. I've also ordered the Oasis bright (unwound, low G, UKE-8001F) set. I think I'm getting closer to the mark. But if this doesn't work, the Pono is going up for sale and I'm going to try another uke.
