Its been 3 years since I had the cataracts in both eyes done and I have hardly had any problems with the eyeballs since, till today..I decided to mark out a nice board of Cuban mahogany ready for sawing up into uke size pieces..it was such a nice day I decided to do it outdoors....I placed it on a table on the lawn..then went into the workshop to get some marking out gear the lighting in the workshop was dim compared to outside and as left to aproach the table "Wham" it was just as if someone had thrown a pot of black ink in my face?? no pain but all I could see was a load of large black tadpole like blobs drifting about in my left eye..I immediately stopped what I was doing and went in the house and sat down...Over the next hour or so the blobs began to disperse and became more like cobwebs later I was able to go back to work and finish the marking out and sawing..but I now have some floaters drifting about in that eye that weren't there before. Is the Eye Doctor available for comment ?
:anyone:

I'm not a medical professional, but my wife had something similar. The big concern is a possible detached retina. If it is, the sooner it can be addressed, the better. You should contact an ophthalmologist as soon as possible and have it evaluated. Fortunately, hers turned out to be nothing serious, but it's not something to ignore.

Yes, I am an Ophthalmologist.
It is likely that you have had a vitreous detachment with some small hemorrhage (not uncommon after cataract surgery).
It is urgent (not emergent) that you get seen ASAP to rule out a tear or detachment of the retina. In my practice, I see patients who develop these symptoms the next day, or if on a weekend, Monday AM first appointment.

Ronald ...you are a Gem :) I will try and get an appointment first thing Monday.....Thanks.

I had a vitreous detachment about a year ago and the symptoms sound similar. In my case the hemorrhaging got so bad I lost most of the sight in that eye for a while. A year later I can see okay through that eye, but there is still some persistent cloudiness. Definitely get it checked out as soon as you can, and best of luck to you.

Sounds like it might be a retinal tear. I've had it happen twice, in both eyes. The black blobs (I called mine the dementors) are blood in the eye. Get to a retinologist ASAP.
The percentage chance of a retinal tear is 5% or less.
You can get a hemorrhage just from the PVD.
Not to argue with the above “who may know more than me as a practicing Ophthalmologist surgeon for 40 years.
A general ophthalmologist can make the diagnosis without having to see a retina specialist
Feel free to PM me for more information
