hi folks and welcome to season 443 of the ukulele.

this week - and following on from the fun season that was 336 -
is all about short songs.

your challenge (as it was that week) is to record a song in 60 seconds or less!
anything goes. lots of fun kids songs, cheeky folksy ditties, punk and pop, or cartoon themes and on and on it goes...
you could also write an original, or record an instrumental arrangement,
put a poem to music, or present an abbreviated version of a longer song, etc. the only limit is the constraint of your imagination!
there is also the album joo and i made from season 336 that features
69 songs in 54 minutes from each seasonista who contributed so you
could also cover one of those performances.

a couple of links to get your creative juices flowing:

usual start and finish times apply
hope you all have a lot of fun w/ the theme everyone
please listen to as many songs as you can and comment as you can
Andy's awesome season 442 continues for another day too so no
need to jump ship yet.

We once put on an evening of thrash metal - Arena, the BBC arts series no less, came along to film it: "Earache Records proudly present: Bolthrower! Intense Degree! Extreme Noise Terror! - and topping the bill, Napalm Death!"

I had Napalm Death's set list stuck up on my office wall thereafter - 23 songs in 30 minutes. - if anyone's looking for somewhere to start :)

Thanks for hosting Jon! Loved it the last time you did this theme brother, and i'm looking forward to exploring some original instrumentals this week ~

I loved this theme last time as well ... great idea to revive it, Jon! Assuming there is no song limit?

Just like the last time, here's a couple riffs I've been playing around with recently that are probably never gonna make it into proper songs so I decided to just improv around them.

Edit: how many years I've been doing this and I messed up the video tag?

This is not directed against women but to anyone who is consumed
by how they appear to others in public. Bukowski was an alcoholic
street fighting gambler and he made his reputation by being a low life
bowery bum. He just did not care about the image of himself,
but he did care about the things he wrote. And I am not particularly
concerned about wearing a 100% pure virgin acrylic Davey Crocket hat
that I got from Ms Louden.

One minute song for SOTU 443

The first time you did the 60 second season I was a bit dubious. By the end of the week I was completely won over. Good on ya Jon Boy. An original.

Wash the memory
Wash the stars
Wash the faded
Cuban cars

From Havana
to Indiana
I work the chevy
with my spanner

At night I dream
Pre revolution dreams
Elena dances
as it seems

Wash the memory
Wash the stars
Wash the faded
Cuban cars

Lucky with music... unlucky in love... or so the story goes
What is Beethoven drove a red sports car and picked up chicks
from Sunset Boulevard... what music would he have written then,
and would it have helped him to find someone to love?
One minute song for SOTU 443

i can always be relied upon to lower the tone ...
* WARNING! * THIS VIDEO DOES CONTAIN GRATUITOUS NUDITY AND THOSE OF A NERVOUS DISPOSITION SHOULD PERHAPS NOT WATCH!

wow you fellas.
the early shift utterly smashing this season in the first 30 mins.
have we have ever had this many original songs to kick off a season?
this is what it's about to me friends, let yourselves loose and just play, write, read -
forget about bung notes etc and just bring the feeling. guess the challenge in 60 seconds
is to make something sound whole, lyrically or instrumentally in that time. and to just be ourselves.
got it in spades so far. if the start is any indication we may end up w/ a new rekkid
to rival, if not better, that from 336.

an original song i wrote today for the season.
so looking forward to what unfolds this week y'all.

and as i posted that, Jas's gorgeous swipe at the Duke came in
next to Charley's nekkid romp on an Eric Idle tune.
how good is it gonna get this week...
Charley. i am defeated. and in eternal awe.
love y'all

just wonderful Brian
i'd tell you all about it but i only got a minute...
gotta hit it here folks, early start tomorrow
looking forward to catching up after my flower deliveries

Topical one minute blues song based on an old blues classic hesitation blues

A homemade song, made with the help of the t rex dice of destiny (a little set of dice I wrote bolanesque song prompt ideas on)... Be warned, this is such a fun way to write a song, the dice might get thrown alot this week!

A dutch song under 1 minute Herman van Veen - Ik ben vandaag zo vrolijk.

English Lyrics below:
I am so happy today
So happy, so happy
I am pretty happy
I've never been that happy

I was happy before
So happy, so happy
But so pretty happy
I never was before

Sometimes I am unhappy
Incredibly unhappy
Sometimes I am unhappy
Then I die of grief

Sometimes I am a bit neurotic
Psychotic and chaotic
Unstable and neo-gothic
But not today

I am so happy today
So happy, so happy
I am pretty happy
I've never been that happy

Yes, I am so happy today
So happy, so happy
I am pretty happy
I've never been that happy

I was happy before
Very happy, very happy
But so pretty happy
I never was before

Sometimes I am a bit neurotic
Psychotic and chaotic
Unstable and parasotic
But not today

I picked up an extra guitar cord this week, so I can run the uke through the Zoom G1Xfour, the Mel9, and the Yamaha MOX6 at the same time and add as many effects as possible. I was playing around with sounds yesterday and came up with this one just before the Seasons open mic. This was a bit of noodling done to make use of the sound.

When I hosted Season 188, the theme was the most depressing songs in the world. I once tried to write a super-downer like that, and it's probably just as well I never got more than a verse and a half done. The upside is that my new ZoomG1Xfour effects box can get closer to the sound I was looking for than I could manage before. The video originally came out to 1:07, so I re-recorded it and shortened it by a couple of measures.

Lyrics:

Shadow on the sea
Shadows tatter, fray, and curl
With little bites and big ones
God eats up the world

Convolution rain
Convolution rain
We hear it on the black box as we mop up the plane
