Hey all, I was recently listening to some songs by Jake Shimabukuro (https://youtu.be/VbTrdj7vPGU), and was paying attention to not only how fast he plays but the strumming patterms. I can strum very fast quite easily, but don't really understand how to get away from just playing a fast DUDUDUDU pattern. I know you could make some strums softer of use your thumb here and there, but I'm stumped trying to bring it all together. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

In that video, you need to watch his left hand as well as his right hand. Left-hand (or fretting hand) muting is commonly used by Hawaii-based ukulele players. Here is a basic tutorial from the Ukulele Underground YouTube channel:

The triple strum is something you should be familiar with also.
