Season 450: Reprising Randy's Alphabet Week

For my "D" entry, I D-cided to tackle a song that has been on my mind for years, but like a lot Eagles tunes, that Don Henley sound is not in my tackle box. Singing it in F instead of the original G and it's got uke-friendly chords and is more in my reach...

U is for Ukulele Lady by Gus Kahn & Richard A. Whiting - 1925

Hawaiian shirts.jpg My Hawaiian shirts jimuke.jpg I've done this song before.

Soon after I became reacquainted with the ukulele, in 2009, we had a Thanksgiving dinner at my sister's in Stratford. Brother Bob and I were singing Ukulele Lady and his daughter Steph decided to learn it. She sounded so good that somebody suggested that we record it. This is the result.

Z is for Zip-a-dee-doo-dah by Allie Wrubel & Ray Gilbert 1946 I did it!

My apologies for saying, "Season 405". I mixed my digits.

This baritone uke/tenor guitar was my son, Clayton's first instrument. When my sons, Clay and Darcy were three, I bought the tenor guitar and a banjolin at a yard sale and gave them to my sons. I tuned them up to an open chord and let them wail away. Clay soon asked me if I could put a pickguard on it to "make it a Martin". My kids are now 43 and both make their living playing and/or teaching music.

Little known fact: Tommy Lee Jone ane Rickie Lee Jones are not related in any way to one another.

Xyphoid Process Blues

X is for: Xiphoid Process Blues, Liz Brinker 2020

Xiphoid Process
Liz Brinker, 2020

Intro

There are songs about heartache
And there are songs about heartbreak
But since you left darlin’
I’ve got a new take
Yes, somethin’ pains me
But, I’m all about accuracy…(in that general vicinity)
My Xyphoid Process hurts

Now, I know where my heart is
But, since you left that night
All my pain is centered
A little bit lower and a little to the right

Yes, somethin’ pains me
In that general vicinity
My Xiphoid Process hurts

(Break over “Now, I know where...My Xiphoid Process hurts” )

I know it sounds like heartburn
Maybe if you’d return...
Why don’t you come on home, darlin’?
I’m ready for my luck to turn
I’ve got a burnin’ yearnin’
And, ow, my sternum...
My Xiphoid Process hurts

Now, you may say I’m crazy
But I know what I feel
I’m not just hopin’ for the sympathy vote
I know this pain is real

I’ve a got a burnin’ yearnin’
And, ow, my sternum
My Xiphoid Process hurts
My Xiphoid Process hurts

Balalaika ,which is basically half a ukelele with three strings, two of which are the same and one which is steel and three corners and sides..........and a ukelele , which isn't any of the above. Famous Russian folk tune. I should have practice it a bit longer, but there's letters awaiting
