I want to buy some good quality cigar box (or -ish) tenor uke. Something that resonates and is playable to the last fret.

If someone wants to get rid of his Tom Guy cigar box or some other like that please let me know ;)

Or if you know any good active builders that could build me one. Bonus points for european builders. Been searching and found a couple potential builders so far:

Shonky: http://www.shonkymusicalinstruments.co.uk/ (UK)
Tiki king: http://www.tikiking.com/uke_Pic_Frame_Set.html (US)

As noted above, CB Gitty is a great place to look. They sell multiple kits, parts, etc. but also sell some completed instruments they make.
Also, check around at Cigar Box Nation. I think that's pretty much the center of the CBG universe online. You should be able to find some info on builders in your area.

Aw man----I didn't need to see that Cigar Box Nation site.......or the CB Gitty cigar box guitars........he has one with a concert scale and string set........musical rabbit hole no less fun than standard uke's for sure......

Those sites are great...and yes these types of instruments can be a lot of fun. To me, there's just something special about the more rough, home-made kinda thing too. Of course I still appreciate the very precise and near perfect instruments too......but this CBG stuff is just a different kinda thing. I've built the bento box kit on Gitty as well as several other instruments just from wood and parts. I've given some one string slide instruments (could be called diddley bows) away to family. Fun stuff.

Thanks for the links. I think ill also try to build one, but dont have the tools or the skills so it might take a while.

Hi,
I am starting on just this instrument this week. It will be a tenor, in mahogany, oak, and spruce. Message me if you would like one built to your spec.

I also sell kits, all you would have to do is glue it all together, a bit of sanding, and finish to your liking.

I am now working on my fourth one. If you have minimal mechanical and wood working skills like me you can make a very nice instrument. If I can do it you can too? Here are links to the three I built with MGB Ukulele Kit. Baritone and two Tenors. I have less than $80.00 in each ukulele. The are cool looking and they sound very good.
