Ok.... I admit I live under a rock. Call me late to the game, but I recently discovered the wonderful beauty of Tin Pan Alley ukulele. As an experienced musician of over 40 years, I consider myself a newbie to the TPA ukulele. I am asking for resources, tips, tricks, etc. to help my musical skills evolve in this style of play. I am wanting to dive in head first into the TPAU pool, but the pool does not have any water in it yet. Please help! Thanks :)

The best Tin Pan Alley musician I've ever met is Lil Rev.

Ukester brown has a lot of those tunes

The late Ian Whitcomb did much to catalogue and maintain interest in those tunes, not only recording them but producing a number of songbooks and histories. I'd also suggest looking into Leon Redbone's discography, as he too was passionate about keeping the music alive and you can find some quite obscure titles that he covered, albeit as a guitarist.

Another Ian, Ian Chadwick, maintains a marvellous resource of relevant sheet music: http://www.vintageukemusic.com/

Thanks for the recommendations! I will look them all up :)

Can someone recommend some songs to start with - maybe some of the more commonly played tunes? Something to cut some teeth with? Thanks.

This is one of the beauties of the uke ---- lifting up and exposing vast amounts of subterranean music. Layers and layers of it.
