I know it's not a valid concern, but I never attach a strap there for fear of getting wear marks on that area.

And which pieces are genuine vs faux leather?
I might copy that head strap solution if it is real leather.

Yes a Thomann brand and both are genuine leather. Headstrap is available from Martin or Aliexpress.
I did cut the headstrap narrower to suit the ukulele.
There are a lot of different brands on Amazon and Ebay. Also at Music store sites. Most are guitar extensions or small straps. THey come in real leather and man-made faux leather. I don't remember the brand, but one offered a wide variety of brown, tan and black color leathers. Some with a star on the button and most plain. In Antique brass, or chrome silver.
It trimmed a couple down width wise, and used them for a while. Even made my own. I think they look much classier than a shoelace.
Eventually, I decided I preferred strap pins on the side of the heel.

The button on the starred ones is a bit bigger than on the cheap aliexpresses, which I think suits a ukulele better.

I failed to mention that for the headstock tie on I usually use one of those Planet Waves quick release things. They work great. Very secure. I was searching for a link to that and just found that they now offer one of those built into a strap already. Pretty neat:
