This a rare little old vice that I have managed to procure....It was manufactured in the South of England by a guy called James Edward Wilson. He ran a small Engineering business and he patented this design in 1945 Patent number 588706...it has several interesting features like the rotating caul to suit many shapes and sizes, the lead screw is protected from swarfe and filings by a helical leaf spring cover between the jaws and a tube at the rear..it has a built in brass soft jaw which flips into place when required...and the vice jaws are offset to allow for long work pieces to be held vertical..and finally a small area that can be used as an anvil...I suspect it was used one time by a clock maker or jeweller...it is just the right size for working on nuts and saddles.

It is unique indeed. Should come in to some good use, with the rotating top caul to hold irregular shapes.

Gripping story .
