Today I Learned: Tornavoz

Latest update:

I decided that I didn't think I needed the 1.75" of length on my Tornavoz. It seemed like about 1" would do the trick. (resonant frequency still just under the Low G)

So, I cut my piece of plastic bottle into two pieces. One about 5/8", the other about 1".

I put the short one in... and it really didn't seem to have much of an effect. I'm sure there was some, but definitely not dramatic. Pitched that one.

The 1" one... seems to work about as well as the longer one. Maybe a little less of that echo-ey plastic-y sound. Maybe a tiny bit less volume reduction, but still quite a bit of the resonance. Cool.

It's probably a good thing I don't own a lathe. I'd be experimenting with a custom turned wooden piece.

Very interesting stuff! Fender's doing something similar with their Acoustasonic series, but they don't show their math.

And you should definitely get a lathe :) 3D printer'll be easier for experimenting, but not nearly so cool as custom wood piece
