I was looking at the MGB (no, not the sports car) site, and I see they sell ready-made wooden boxes. Good idea. $27.50.

I might make one as spring approaches. The birds won't care about the type of strings (none) or the fret spacing. I'll have to get the hole size right for whatever kind of bird might use it. It can't be too deep, either. Let me check with my friend Google.
