Does anyone understand the difference between the Leolani and Kumu brands? From their website, both brands seem to be mostly laminate instruments with similar specs.

The relations of various brands are sometimes difficult to unravel. In recent videos posted on Facebook and Instagram staff from KoAloha have promoted the Leolani brand, which makes me wonder if they bought it. I also own a HanoHano branded uke and with some effort found out that they share the same Honolulu address with Leolani. It already was stated in other threads that many name brand ukes are essentially produced in the same factories to very similar specs and only differ cosmetically in colour or name printed on headstock, it is likely that similar arrangements exist for marketing and distribution.

Leolani are the main brand - make a range of solid topped AND laminate instruments (made in far east) and sold out of Honolulu u.nder the Leolani name

Kumu IS Leolani too - but just a different line - Hawaiian koa series of laminates.

The fact that both those lines are on the Leonlani website as two different 'series' should make it clear that this is not a grey channel brand, or an 'arrangement'.

It's just two product lines from the same brand. The Leolani collection and the Kumu collection.
