Hello Everyone,
New to forum, new to ukuleles, been playing guitar close to 40 years. Decided to give Ukes a try. I do own a cheap Soprano and only little bit better concert sized uke. I am looking to purchase my first decent Uke and I really like the vintage Martin sound. The only way I can describe it, is jangly and warm at the same time. I would like to get a Martin uke, pre 1950

Hello Towser. I own a 1918 Style1 Martin Soprano and I absolutely love the sound. Your description of jangly and warm is spot on. Take your time and find one that is in good shape. There are some on eBay right now but the reasonable priced ones have either been repaired or have damage. There are still some in excellent condition. Enjoy the journey.

Thanks for the info, I noticed that a lot of the good ones are priced pretty high. If they are reasonable priced they all seem to have major damage or repairs. Some we even broken in half!

Martin did a reissue, some years back around 2003. It's supposed to be a replica of an old Martin. It's called the HSO. There is also a SO but it had some faults, which were remedied in the HSO

I just picked this up on eBay. A Martin Style 0 from around the 30’s. Got it for $550. Seller says no cracks, no repairs that he could find. We shall see. I’ll have my luthier go through it!

For some reason some my text keeps getting cut out from my post. Anyway, thanks Joe T for the eBay suggestion!

Congratulations Towser! It really looks nice and fairly priced. Happy you were able to find one in good shape. Can't wait to hear what you think of it once you hear it. Way to go.
