Remember the Black & Decker Workmate? I still use one.

It was invented by an Englishman interestingly enough:

The aluminum H-frame gave the Workmate a very distinctive appearance and was considered to be "Hickman's greatest aesthetic stroke."[3] By the Type 6, the aluminum H-frames were gone, replaced by ones of stamped steel.[4]

They have since sold thirty million Workmates.[5] Ron Hickman received a royalty of about 50 pence (
 
I’ve got 3 or 4 clones of that one...and a couple of vintage B&D drills still in working order...even the B & D wood turning attachment.

Yep, I have one in my shop that I've had over 20 years. My wife bought it for my birthday one year. I don't know if the design has changed through the years, but it's a handy thing.
