I don't know if this is of interest to any of you, but I thought it was just nifty... Aaron Keim, of Beansprout Instruments, managed to borrow an early 1900's M. Nunes and Sons ukulele from a local customer and did a video talking about its history and construction. He even played it a bit.

It is about 8 minutes long, but well worth a watch in my opinion. I love seeing these early examples.

in 2015 Anuenue made a reproduction thisuke with modern peghed tuners. It is called the 1879, but it was most likely modeled on a 1915 Nunes instrument.
It is a awesome instrument if you can find one, you will keep it!

Thank you for sharing this video. I really appreciate it.

I LOVE these old ukes. They're so charming. Their simplicity and imperfection make them just beautiful to me. I bought a very similar, no name uke from Elderly a while ago. Light as a feather! And now I know where all its quirks come from. Thanks so much for posting this video.

Love this as well. Thanks for sharing!

Very interesting. Enjoyed seeing some of the differences in construction from modern instruments. Pity it's starting to warp and twist.
