I have those. The Red Cedar is beautiful looking, and great sounding. I think it has a bit more richness in tone color than the Mahogany. Mine are gloss, and I wouldn't want to switch. The finish really shows off the grain and color in the wood. It's a very special Uke. Choose your tuner finish and knob color carefully. They can really add a lot to the look of the instrument.
I'm just using the strings that came on it. I did ask them to set it up with a Low G which they are more than happy to do for you. I've gotten really great service from Mainland.
Hi- I have a 2011 gloss mahogany tenor purchased from Jake Wildwood. For what it is worth, he reset it from low g back to high g. I love this thing. I am most comfortable with soprano; this and my Outdoor are the only two tenors I really like.
