Hello all,

I have a line on what I believe to be a 1927-1932-ish Martin style 1 soprano uke.

It looks fine, seller says it is in good shape with a straight neck.

Looks like there has been a repaired crack in the back.

Asking price is $550 which I think is very reasonable!

it is coming from a guy who cleans out storage lockers....so, this could be interesting.

Any thoughts/comments/suggestions?

My question: If there person cleans storage sheds, how do they know the neck is straight? Was this looked at by a luthier/shop?

My gut is rumbling--my gut usually is wise (although not always)

Yes, you will find that whether it be through seller dishonestly or ignorance, those old instruments are not always in the condition that is claimed. Perhaps the neck is straight, but there may be other issues. It is always wise to take a good look. Some issues can end up costly, making what seems like a good deal into an expensive proposition.

If you get it via eBay or Reverb, if it’s not as described, you can easily send it back. I think you have similar protection if you pay via PayPal.
