Hiya,

Looking to pick this up but was trying to investigate who used these tuners? Any ideas appreciated.

Thanks KimScreenshot_20210627-162823.jpg

I had a set of those tuners back in the 1990s. They were well made and worked well but I thought they were a bit large for a soprano uke.

John Colter

It is not a Kamaka as the headstock is not a production type..if you are going to play the uke regularly i would change the tuners to Gotoh UPT tuners easier to use and are better ..but keep the old tuners

Those tuners are made by Schaller. Kamaka has used them extensively, but other makers have as well. I always felt they were heavy and over-engineered, but some people love them.

that's cool. it looks like a Kamaka Ohta san shape in a soprano sized body. Nice looking koa!

Aloha,

Those tuners were made by Schaller in Germany. I think they discontinued those after Kamaka started to use other tuning machines like Gotoh. You can still find those big thumbscrew tuners nowadays, made by Grover. They are pretty good in term of quality and smoothness but I heard that they are a bit heavier than those normal friction tuners.

Do you have an idea who made the ukulele? Looks like a T&K Ceniza soprano.

I was having a guitar purchased by my Grandpa but due to some financial crisis and to repay the payday loans in FL we have sold it last year. All this was due to COVID and our poor financial conditions only.
