Please share your whiskey-themed songs with me! Videos, tabs, lyrics, different versions -- all are welcome!

I'm strictly a Scottish peated whisky man myself, but musically both country and folk produce sweet songs about whiskey.

It would be great if this thread would grow into a massive collection!

Cheers! Slainte!

I thought you meant to share YOUR whiskey themed songs meant a video of yourself playing a whiskey themed song rather than transferring one off of YouTube done by a pro.
Was I wrong Ikimiki?

Hi Jim!

Quite frankly, I'm quite open. Your uke songs have top priority, but hey, I'm interested in the entire cornucopia of whiskey-themed music!

I have a book produced by Lazarus Books (Aaron and Nicole Keim) called "Wet Your Whistle, Boubon Cocktail Recipes and Folk Songs to Drink By". It has collected recipes and the lyrics for some folk tunes.

There is no trace of it now on the internet, even with alternate search engines, as far as I can see. But some other members may have purchased it.

These are some of the song titles:

Likes Likker Better Than Me
Tell it to Me
Down in Black Bottom
Alabama Bound
If the River was Whiskey
Rye Whisky
The Bootlegger Blues
Old Plank Road
Whisky for my Johnny

Perhaps some of them would be sung after the children are put into bed.

I like the art of Printmaking and the book is a jewel of printmaking with Nicole's illustrations and the printed format. But the content may have been too challenging to continue production after the initial run.

Going back to the thread, it is a useful resource for both cocktail recipes and folk songs about whisky if you can find a copy.

Hi Bill -- Does it have instruction for e.g. clawhammer arrangements of these tunes? Or is it just the lyrics?

I’m a bourbon man, myself.

John Lee Hooker had some good whiskey-adjacent songs… “One Bourbon, One Scotch, One Beer” and “Whiskey & Wimmin.”

There’s a great old fiddle tune called “Whiskey before Breakfast”. But if it has lyrics, I’ve never heard them.

[D]Early one day the sun wouldn't shine
I was [G]walking down the [D]street not [A]feeling too fine
[D]I saw two old men with a bottle between 'em
And [G]this was the [D]song that I [A]heard them [D]singing
Chorus
[D]Lord preserve us and protect us
We've been [A]drinking whiskey 'fore breakfast
2
Well I [D]stopped by the steps where they was sitting
And [G]I couldn't be[D]lieve how [A]drunk they were getting
I [D]said, old men, have you been drinking long
They said, [G]just [D]long enough [A]to be singing [D]this song
Chorus
3
Well, they [D]passed me the bottle and I took a little sip
And it [G]felt so [D]good I [A]just couldn't quit
I [D]drank some more and next thing I knew
There were [G]three of us [D]sitting there [A]singing this [D]tune
Chorus
4
[D]One by one everybody in the town
[G]They heard our [D]ruckus and they [A]all came down
[D]And pretty soon all the streets were ringing
With the [G]sound of the [D]whole town [A]laughing and [D]singing
Chorus (x2)

Energetic, up-beat -- love it! ...Now how do you preserve those qualities in a Uke arrangement? Claw hammer seems would be a must, I think.
