hello friends and welcome to season 494
as the title suggests, this week has a two-fold theme:

1. Dedicate

please write or cover a song for someone who is suffering;
perhaps physically, perhaps mentally or emotionally -
in whatever way - i would like you to choose something
and dedicate to somebody you know and love who might be struggling
for whatever reason and, if you feel to, please tell us
why you recorded that particular song

2. Celebrate

given we are in the throes of the olympic games,
i would like you to write or cover a song about sports, or a sport,
or at least one w/ lyrics that make at least a passing reference to the above

no song limits
usual start and finish times apply
collaborations, multitracking all good
i'll make a playlist when the songs start rolling in

hope you have a great week ahead everyone

xo jon

Yes, interesting theme, Jon! Why is it that all sports songs seem to be about baseball????

Because people watching baseball need to amuse themselves somehow?

*ducks for cover*

Thanks for jumping in and hosting Jon.

Here's one about a sport which Team GB have been pretty good at this time.

Thank you for hosting, Jon!
Good themes! I wrote something for my 11-year old nephew Gylan, who thinks that Rafael Nadal is awesome.
I combined both theme in this talking song.
Being a child or young person growing up in this screwed up world is not easy.

I have attended One (Count 'em!) professional baseball game in my life. I was eleven years old. My cousin, seated next to me, knew all the players on each team, all the statistics, and what all that stuff meant.

I was wishing for a book, or something that had some entertainment value.

I'd rather watch paint dry than watch a baseball game. (And I've actually had a spirited discussion with a professional artist about watching paint dry, while we were discussing what kind of lighting setup he should use in his new studio...)

Hello, Jon, and many thanks for stepping up to host at the last minute! Having spent a whole morning trying to find a suitable sports song, I somehow stumbled on this, which is a bit of a double whammy, in that I have a dear friend who is currently struggling and this seems an appropriate song to dedicate to him; but it is also the anthem of Liverpool F.C., so might just about also scrape in as a sporting option. (And, I'm sorry, I'm getting a cold, so I sound a bit wheezy!)

An original, "Go Away", for tenor ukulele, with overdubs of vocals and ashbory ubass. Dedicated to the untouchables, the ones who we both see and don't see.

Cheers, Jon

thank you Brian, Steve, Joo, Val and Brian for these beautiful songs.
i felt your heart in them, felt your compassion in them, your love.
i have made a playlist and included the link in the original post.
looking forward very much to your music this week everyone.

Another Saturday comes and goes,
Another south wind it comes and blows
Another baseball field Another pop fly,
Another bunch of boys and another blue sky
Boys laugh, boys play

Baseball - Sam Baker

I'm pretty sure I've done this before. I usually play it on guitar, but I seem to recall doing it on the uke for a previous season. I hope it's OK to repeat songs.
Val said, "Why is it that all sports songs seem to be about baseball????" and this one immediately popped into my head.

Thank you for stepping in and hosting, Jon! :)

This original song is dedicated to somebody I know who is suffering the emotional pain of being physically/geographically separated from a person they love because of the duties and responsibilities they both have to others. :’-(

Hi again, Jon, and friends.
I recorded something i wrote during lunch break today, for my nephew Gylan, again.
The Waterman sounds pretty bad...but I think, maybe it makes my singing better.
Hope everyone is well.

thought i could ignore the olympic games but being in lockdown it is some thing to watch and at least the ladies soccer team beat gb
