I can strum with most chords, love finger picking, and I can play most songs picking out a single note melody if I know the song well. Now to play embellishments and scales and what ever to fill in and dress up a single note melody - That is the question. What should I study to learn how? Can anyone recommend a good book to study with? Any and all advise welcome. Thank you.

Have you ever checked out Stu Fuch's Ukulele Zen YouTube videos? When he presents a tutorial, he usually includes a few licks to spice up strumming.

Another person to check out online is Phil Doleman's tutorials.

Both provide good instruction and share ideas for integrating picking and embellishment into your strumming.

Only downside is that the material is not particularly organized, but you can learn quite a bit from them.

Bluesy.

Thanks to Kissing and Bill1 for the James Hill links. These are a great intro to what creating chord melody is all about.
