Aloha and e komo mai Taihia, I have many Tahitian friend both here in Hawai'i and in Tahiti so nice to have you here. Tahitian 'ukuleles have 8 strings correct? Have you tried your Kamaka with 8 strings already? Why do you want to turn it into a 4 string?

Anyways, yes you can use 4 strings using every other tuner though the string with be off a tad in one direction. Try it with 4, you can always add 4 more strings if you don't like it. I gotta get me a Tahitian 'ukulele. :D

One of my best friends from childhood is named (Chief) To'ofa Krainer, grew up with him here in Hawai'i but he moved back to Tahiti a few years ago. Do you know him by chance?

Iorana,

Tahitian live everywhere, in the pacific, expect in there island :)
Oh sorry, did he live in arue right now ?

The facts is i don't realy like the 8 string, too much playing with our uke, the sound is to agressive...

I would like to turn it into 4 string when i saw people on these forum playing
with a four, it sound really good and it is more friendly...

it is an old version of a TENOR 8-STRING (HF-38) of kamaka HAWAII,
it is right MADE IN HAWAII USA...
I hope it is a original one, don't mather.

I will try it

Do you think there is a bing difference ?
did anyone try somethink like that before ?

I tried it and it was ok. It all depends on how you feel. If it sounds good to you fine. Some people will say you're wasting a good uke, but it's your uke.You can always put back the other strings.
