Note: Have several Maholo ukes, a couple Kanilea, a Martin and a Gretsch. Had a National Reso.

Note: Also a Leesburg location, Have Fender, Kala, Martin S-O, Mahalo, and (as of 7-21-09) Stagg Electric ukes.

There are some GCs but they really don't offer that much. I read about a place in MD but haven't been there yet, when I go I will post some info.

This might serve as a sort of traveler's guide if enough people post things on it.

Simple task: give fellow UU members information on Ukulele stores in different cities.

As for me

I live in the El Segundo/Manhattan Beach area.

In El Segundo there's Kahanamoku's Swimboat (On Standard and Grand across the street from Cold Stones) If you go inside, tell the owner Mark that Daniel sent you.

Other than that the only other uke store I've been in is Dietez Bros
240 S. Sepulveda
Manhattan Beach CA, 90266
310-379-6799

it has a bigger selection but is a bit more pricey. but their 40% off sale is killer.

so I ask all of you, whether you live in Hawaii or Ohio, Alabama or Alaska, to let everyone know where YOU buy YOUR ukes.

shakalohana!
Thanks for some new ones!

Check out the stores of this thread: http://www.ukuleleunderground.com/forum/showthread.php?t=4164

Lori, thanks for the thread. I knew there was one for SoCal, my brain is probably mush right now.

i bought both of my ukes from kent at ukulele academy, a koaloha soprano and a flea. he has a small, one room setup but has at least 50 ukes displayed at a time it's kind of incredible. good service and good product. he also has classes, jams, performances on his stage...cool place if you're in the neighborhood!

When in Louisville, visit:

Guitar Emporium
1610 Bardstown Rd
Louisville, KY 40205-1210
(502) 459-4153
http://www.guitar-emporium.com/cgi-bin/quickdb.cgi?searchstring=u

Notes: GE usually has a Flea or Fluke or two in stock. Also the basic Mahalo ukes and sometimes a vintage uke. EDIT: They have a Fender in there too. $150. I played it. Didn't like it a bit.

Steilberg String Instruments
4029 Bardstown Rd.
Louisville, KY 40218
(502) 491-2337
http://www.stringinstruments.com/

Notes: They've recently started carrying Makai ukes, which include a couple of Koa models. They also have a handful of Oscar Schmidt ukes. I go there because they have beautiful Taylor and Breedlove guitars and Breedlove mandolins.

I'm adding one after stopping by this store:

Name: Bizianes Music Mart
Street: 2317 Bardstown Road
Louisville, ky 40205-2120
Phone: (502) 459-4686

Notes: Currently he has one soprano Aria uke in stock (which was a nice player), but the owner told me he has started working with Lanikai. They're sending a "Hang 10" surf display that will include 10 Lanikai ukes (including a cut-out). Sour note: the owner is a smoking fiend. I couldn't stay in there very long because my asthma was getting bad. No web site.

Coolest music store I've seen in AZ:

The Folk Shop
2525 N. Campbell Avenue
Tucson, AZ 85719
520-881-7147
http://www.thefolkshop.com/

Every strange instrument you can imagine! As far as ukes go, they carry Flukes/Fleas, Ohana, Vineyard, and vintage ukes from Harmony, Gretsch, and even some old Hawaiian makers. They don't have uke strings on display, but if you ask, they have D'Addario Pro Arté as well as Aquilas and a few others.
